Site to focus opposition to the west route of the Bipole 3 transmission line

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) launched www.NoWestLine.ca today, a site that will be a one-stop shop for opposition to the provincial government’s BiPole 3 plan. The CTF estimates the province’s directive to Manitoba Hydro to go down the west side of the province will cost taxpayers an extra billion dollars and unnecessarily tear up 400-600kms of our environment.

“We’re nearing the point of no return for preventing this debacle,” said CTF Prairie Director Colin Craig. “The provincial government’s directive will unnecessarily cost Manitobans an estimated $1 billion and will needlessly tear up 400 more kilometres of our environment. Given our economic slowdown and public interest in the environment, it’s amazing the province is going ahead with the make work project.

The CTF’s site includes a petition, humorous YouTube video (if you find dog poo funny) and a radio ad that the CTF hopes to put on the air.

“Manitobans can't sit idly by and let their government waste their money on what is clearly a larger, more destructive and costlier hydro line,” concluded Craig.
